SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Charles M. Smith of Benton, who passed
4away on October 6, 2011; and
 
5    WHEREAS, He was born December 13, 1925, in Benton to Edward
6and Nancy Marie (Wayman) Smith; he married Norma L. Bigham on
7February 14, 1947, in Pocahontas, Arkansas; and
 
8    WHEREAS, He served with the United States Army during World
9War II in India and Burma; after leaving the Army, he owned and
10operated Charles M. Smith Trucking, Tri-City Redi Mix Inc., and
11Benton Drug; he was also the president of First American
12Savings and Loan and mayor of Benton from 1987 to 1991; and
 
13    WHEREAS, He was of the Non-Denominational faith; and
 
14    WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents;
15his sons, Richard and Charles; and his brother, Everett; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Charles Smith is survived by his son, Robert Smith
17and wife, Pamela; his daughters, Suella Sullivan and Melony
18Dalby and husband, Robert; his grandchildren, Dean Smith,
19Shauna Smith Mullins and husband, Dale, Andrea Smith Butler and
20husband, Brian, and David Brown; his great-grandchildren,

1Katlyn and Faith Wyant, Peyton and Hannah Robinson, Allen
2Mullins, and Tyler and Chloe Butler; his sister, Florence
3Warner; his brothers, Arthur and wife, Patty and Carl and wife,
4Beverly; and several nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
6ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
7his family and friends, the passing of Charles Smith; and be it
8further
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to the family of Charles Smith as a symbol of our
11sincere sympathy.
