SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Doris Raabe of Walnut, who passed away on
4November 10, 2011; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Doris Raabe was born on January 24, 1912, in
6Rushville, Indiana; her parents were Charles and Anna (McColly)
7Burton; she married Willis "Bill" Raabe on December 10, 1943,
8in Rockford; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Doris Raabe grew up on a farm in rural Jasper
10County; after graduating from Newton High School in 1930, she
11moved to Decatur to work, then to Chicago to work as a
12bookkeeper; she met her future husband in Kewanee, where she
13worked in the employment office; the couple moved to Walnut,
14where she lived for 60 years and had many close friends; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Doris Raabe and her husband were partners in Raabe
16Hardware in Walnut for 21 years and in his real estate business
17for 15 years; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Doris Raabe loved to garden, can vegetables, sew,
19cook for her family, and meet her friends at the Walnut Cafe
20for lunch on Fridays; and

1    WHEREAS, Doris Raabe was a member of the Walnut United
2Methodist Church; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Doris Raabe was preceded in death by her husband;
4her grandson, Noah Raabe; and her 8 siblings; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Doris Raabe is survived by her son, Burton; her
6daughter-in-law, Lisa; her grandsons, Isaac, Solomon, and
7Amos; and her great-grandchildren, Ruby and Willis Raabe and
8Sage Cramer; her sister, Avanelle Gosnell; and her many nieces
9and nephews; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
12her family and friends, the passing of Doris Raabe; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Doris Raabe as an expression of our
16sympathy.
