SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Betty Marie Barnett of Canton, who passed
4away on January 29, 2012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Betty Barnett was born on September 12, 1927, in
6Peoria; she was the daughter of Lewis and Gertrude Seelye
7Walker; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Betty Barnett was employed at Peoria Metal and
9Armour Meat Packing and served as a cafeteria lady at Harrison
10School; she also sold Avon products for many years; and
 
11    WHEREAS, In the early 1970s, Betty Barnett and her husband
12moved to rural Canton, where they built a home on a farm they
13shared with their daughter; on the farm, she raised small
14animals and oversaw a large garden; during those years, she was
15an excellent bowler who participated in leagues at Linn Lanes
16in Canton; after moving to Bartonville for a few years, she
17returned to Canton following the death of her husband; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Betty Barnett was an avid and knowledgeable
19gardener who loved tulips and roses; she also enjoyed antique
20hunting and traveling, especially to Hawaii; and

1    WHEREAS, Betty Barnett was a born-again Christian and a
2member of Evangelical Free Church of Canton, where she was a
3Sunday school teacher for many years; she also loved to worship
4and travel with her friends at the First Baptist Church of
5Pekin; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Betty Barnett was preceded in death by her devoted
7husband of almost 50 years, Clayburn W. Barnett Sr., and one
8sister, Norma Eubank; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Betty Barnett is survived by her children, Diana
10Hall, Clayburn W. "Sonny" Barnett Jr. (Sally), Jim Barnett, and
11Brenda Kinsel; her brother, Lewis (Mary) Walker; her sister,
12Patsy Russell; her grandchildren, Mick (Jami) Hall, Kim (Allan)
13Jackson, Michelle (Chris) Stevens, Scott Barnett, Brent
14Barnett, and Brian (Jessica) Kinsel; her 14
15great-grandchildren; and her cat, Muffin; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
18her family and friends, the passing of Betty Marie Barnett; and
19be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Betty Barnett as an expression of
22our sympathy.
