SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of William "Bill" Francis Dettmers of
4Bethalto, who passed away on January 28, 2012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, He was born May 30, 1923, in Bethalto, the son of
6William Herman and Blanche (Rosin) Dettmers; he married Shirley
7A. Warren on April 10, 1948, at Our Lady Queen of Peace
8Catholic Church in Bethalto; and
 
9    WHEREAS, He served his country in the United States Army in
10the European Theater during World War II, earning the Purple
11Heart and retiring as a Master Sergeant; and
 
12    WHEREAS, He retired as Bethalto Postmaster after 38 years;
13he was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, the
14Bethalto American Legion Post No. 214, and the Bethalto Knights
15of Columbus Council No. 4688, where he was a 3rd degree knight;
16he was a coin, stamp, and baseball card collector, enjoyed wood
17crafting, and was an avid dancer; and
 
18    WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife;
19and one sister, Katherine Blastic; and
 
20    WHEREAS, William Dettmers is survived by his children and

1their spouses, William and Sandra Dettmers, Pamela and John
2Gass, Craig Dettmers, Gary and Denise Dettmers, Paul Dettmers,
3Teresa and Jim Langford, Susan and Steve Mitchell, Mary and
4Kevin Hagerty, and Steve and Crystal Dettmers; his 21
5grandchildren; his 12 great-grandchildren; his sister, June
6DeLong; his special companion, Betty Bast; and his nieces and
7nephews; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
10his family and friends, the passing of William Dettmers; and be
11it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of William Dettmers as a symbol of our
14sincere sympathy.
