2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Elvis Nolen of West City, who passed away | ||||||
4 | on April 6, 2012; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Elvis Nolen was born on February 18, 1926, in West | ||||||
6 | Frankfort; he was the son of Oren and Genieve (DePriest) Nolen; | ||||||
7 | he married Dorothy Bearden Reed on May 25, 1984, in the Third | ||||||
8 | Baptist Church of West Frankfort; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Elvis Nolen served as a member of the United | ||||||
10 | States Navy during World War II in the Pacific Campaign; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Elvis Nolen began his career as a school teacher | ||||||
12 | after graduating from Southern Illinois University and the | ||||||
13 | University of Illinois; he served as the regional | ||||||
14 | superintendant of schools for Franklin County for many years; | ||||||
15 | after retiring, he operated Budman's Hydraulic for his aunt, | ||||||
16 | Bernice Murphy, and was assisted by his shop foreman and | ||||||
17 | friend, Jay Coleman; and

18 | WHEREAS, Elvis Nolen was a licensed pilot who flew to | ||||||
19 | meetings in various cities during his career and was associated | ||||||
20 | with Civil Air Patrol; and

1 | WHEREAS, Elvis Nolen was a 58-year member of Masonic Lodge | ||||||
2 | 802 in Carterville; he was also a member of the Ainad Shriners | ||||||
3 | Temple of East St. Louis, the Franklin County Shrine Club, | ||||||
4 | Scottish Rite, Orient American Legion Post 1961, West Frankfort | ||||||
5 | Elks Club 1340, the Franklin County Retired Teachers | ||||||
6 | Association, and the Illinois Association of Retired Regional | ||||||
7 | Superintendants of Schools; he was also a past president of the | ||||||
8 | Illinois Association of County Officials and a past president | ||||||
9 | of the Illinois Association of Regional Superintendants of | ||||||
10 | Schools; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Elvis Nolen was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
12 | and | ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Elvis Nolen is survived by his wife, Dorothy | ||||||
14 | Nolen; his daughters, Karran Nolen Crombar and Janis Reed | ||||||
15 | Thomas and her husband, Skip; his grandchildren, Allen Crombar | ||||||
16 | and his wife, Deanna, Lance Crombar and his wife, Brooke, and | ||||||
17 | Brandon Mandrell and his wife, Alex; his great-grandchildren, | ||||||
18 | Kate and Corey Crombar and Harper Mandrell; his special aunt, | ||||||
19 | Bernice Murphy; his cousins, Karen Novy and her husband, John, | ||||||
20 | Kathy Reilly, and Bob DePriest and his wife, Margo; his other | ||||||
21 | family members, Charles and Kaye Howell, Robert Barnfield, Alan | ||||||
22 | and Vicki Barnfield, Mary Mandrell, and Mekaela; his special | ||||||
23 | helpful neighbors, Roger and Tami Price and Bob and Betsy | ||||||

4 | his family and friends, the passing of Elvis Nolen; and be it | ||||||

6 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
7 | presented to the family of Elvis Nolen as an expression of our | ||||||
