SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Doris A. Shallenberger of Pekin, who
4passed away on May 12, 2012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, She was born July 29, 1932, in East St. Louis to
6Edward A. and Letha Evelyn (Kelley) Akridge; she married Vernie
7Ray Shallenberger on June 30, 1951, in Corinth, Mississippi;
8and
 
9    WHEREAS, She worked as a Certified Nurse's Aide for 30
10years for Pekin Hospital, Methodist Medical Center in Peoria,
11and for OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, retiring
12July 4, 1988; she previously worked for Boss Glove Factory and
13for the Alton Glass Factory; she also raised 5 kids and worked
14at home as a housemother; and
 
15    WHEREAS, She was a member of the Pekin YWCA, where she
16enjoyed swimming; she also was a member of the Carrie M. Club
17at the Pekin Union Mission Society and an associate member of
18the UAW 974 Retirees Club; she went to Bunko Club for many
19years and loved being a winter Texan for 23 years; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Her hobbies and interests included cooking,
21camping, and shopping; she also liked playing bingo, billiards,

1and clogging; she enjoyed family time; she was a member of the
2Community Fellowship General Baptist Church in South Pekin; and
 
3    WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her parents; her son,
4Gary Lee Shallenberger; and her granddaughter, Rhonda Rodgers;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Doris Shallenberger is survived by her husband,
7Vernie Ray; her son, Johnny R. (Debbie) Shallenberger; her
8daughters, Regina A. (Johnny) Martin, Ramona E. (William)
9Howard, Frankie J. (Robert) Freeman, and Melody E. (Don)
10Tackett; her 15 grandchildren; her 37 great-grandchildren; and
11her half sister, Caroline; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
14her family and friends, the passing of Doris Shallenberger; and
15be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Doris Shallenberger as a symbol of
18our sincere sympathy.
