SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Evelyn Rosemary Koine of Carbondale, who
4passed away on May 7, 2012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, She was born March 14, 1953, in Carbondale, the
6daughter of the late William R. and Eurma C. Hayes, the seventh
7of 10 children; she accepted Christ at an early age and was a
8devoted member of Bethel AME Church, holding positions as
9chairwoman of Feed My Sheep Community Kitchen, choir president,
10steward, and stewardess; and
 
11    WHEREAS, She was a community activist and chairwoman of the
12Carbondale Preservation Committee and a board member of the
13Eurma C. Hayes Center; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Evelyn Koine leaves to cherish her memory her
15husband of 34 years, David K. Koine; her daughters, Nicole T.
16Hayes Mason and Edith C. Koine; her sons, William K., Arquisha
17Kinyua, and William K. Koine,; her stepson, Koine K. (Wanjiku)
18Kinyua; her 21 grandchildren; her sisters, Georgetta and James
19Slaughter, Ovella and Ray Cooper, Kathyrn Harris, Lillian and
20Larry Peterson, and Rebecca Hayes Thomas; her brother, William
21R. and Verna Hayes; her close friends, Frances Davenport,
22Rosetta Douglas, Marilyn James, and Eleanor Powell; and a host

1of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives, and friends;
2therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
4ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
5her family and friends, the passing of Evelyn Koine; and be it
6further
 
7    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8presented to the family of Evelyn Koine as a symbol of our
9sincere sympathy.
