SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Sidney Peter Ross Jr. of Peoria, who
4passed away on June 5, 2012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, He was born on April 10, 1944, in Peoria, to Ruth
6Jones and Sidney Ross Sr.; he married Martha Marie Chew on
7September 20, 1980; and
 
8    WHEREAS, He was a graduate of Spalding Academy; after high
9school, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served
10proudly from 1964 to 1968; upon receiving an honorable
11discharge, he eagerly transferred into a Naval Reserve Command
12for another 2 years of service; he later attended Illinois
13Central College; and
 
14    WHEREAS, He retired in 2009 after 38 years of service to
15Caterpillar Inc., where he had been a member of United Auto
16Workers Local 974; he was a member of St. Martin De Porres
17Catholic Church, now known as St. Joseph; he was a family man
18who loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and
19great-grandchildren; he avidly supported his wife in her
20community efforts and loved watching the Food Network channel
21and baseball; and

1    WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; his
2grandmother who raised him, Lucille Jones; his brothers, Ural
3Jackson and Edward Jackson; and his sister, Dorothy Walker; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Sidney Ross Jr. leaves to cherish his most
5precious memories: his loving and devoted wife, Martha Ross;
6his daughters, Wondra Pie, Alzevette (Howard) Williams, and
7Sidney C. Ross; his grandchildren, Tanieka, Raymond, Tiffani,
8Brittani, Howard Jr., Quilo, and Bryson; his
9great-grandchildren, Edmond, Eliyah, Julianna, and Evonne; his
10niece, Shirley K. Walker; his nephew, Benjamin Walker; and a
11host of other cousins, nieces, nephews, family, and friends;
12therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
15his family and friends, the passing of Sidney Ross, Jr.; and be
16it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Sidney Ross Jr. as a symbol of our
19sincere sympathy.
