SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Matthew D. Melucci of Collinsville, who
4passed away on May 10, 2012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Matthew Melucci was born on January 23, 1944, in
6Belleville, New Jersey; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Matthew Melucci earned his bachelor's degree from
8Rutgers University in 1966 and his master's degree from St.
9Louis University in 1974; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Matthew Melucci had a long career in public
11service which began during his service as a lieutenant in the
12U.S. Army Military Police Corps, where he was assigned to the
13Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe; he served as Madison
14County's first director of administration under the late Nelson
15Hagnauer from 1975 to 1979; he also served as first chief of
16staff to U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello and was named
17executive director of the East-West Gateway Council of
18Governments in 1979; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Matthew Melucci was a 5-term clerk of the Third
20Judicial Circuit Court; he was first elected to the position in
211992 and was subsequently re-elected in 1996, 2000, 2004, and

12008; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Matthew Melucci served as the chairman of the
3Madison County Democratic Party; in 2007, he was elected to
4serve as the Madison County Democratic Party Chairman and was
5recently re-elected to that post; he was also a member of the
6Democratic National Committee; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Matthew Melucci was a St. Louis Fellow in the
8Program for Senior Executives of State and Local Government at
9the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University
10and was in the 1977 to 1978 class of the Danforth Foundation's
11St. Louis Leadership Program; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Matthew Melucci was a member of S.S. Peter & Paul
13Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the American
14Legion Post 365; he was also a past president of the
15Collinsville Lions Club and the Italian American Club of
16Southwestern Illinois; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Matthew Melucci was preceded in death by his
18parents, Matteo and Antoinette, nee LaBadia, Melucci, and his
19sister, Maria, nee Melucci, Bainbridge; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Matthew Melucci is survived by his nephews, Tom,
21Tim, Mark, and James Bainbridge; his nieces, Carla Cogdell and

1Maria Wilckens; his great-niece and great-nephews; his
2brother-in-law; and his aunts and cousins; therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
4ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
5his family and friends, the passing of Matthew D. Melucci; and
6be it further
 
7    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8presented to the family of Matthew Melucci as an expression of
9our sympathy.
