1    AN ACT concerning criminal law.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Criminal Code of 2012 is amended by changing
5Section 12C-50 as follows:
 
6    (720 ILCS 5/12C-50)
7    Sec. 12C-50. Hazing.
8    (a) A person commits hazing when he or she knowingly
9requires the performance of any act by a student or other
10person in a school, college, university, or other educational
11institution of this State, for the purpose of induction or
12admission into any group, organization, or society associated
13or connected with that institution, if:
14        (1) the act is not sanctioned or authorized by that
15    educational institution; and
16        (2) the act results in bodily harm to any person.
17    (a-5) A school official, including a teacher, guidance
18counselor, support staff, coach, or volunteer coach employed by
19a school, college, university, or other educational
20institution of this State commits hazing when he or she fails
21to report to law enforcement authorities any hazing reported to
22school or educational institution authorities by others or of
23which school or educational authorities otherwise have

1knowledge.
2    (b) Sentence. Hazing under subsection (a) of this Section
3is a Class A misdemeanor, except that hazing that results in
4death or great bodily harm is a Class 4 felony. Hazing under
5subsection (a-5) of this Section is a Class A misdemeanor.

7    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
8becoming law.
