Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides for issuance of U.S. Coast Guard license plates, with eligibility requirements to be determined by the Secretary of State. Effective immediately.

| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 | | Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding |
| 5 | | Section 3-699 as follows:
|
| 6 | | (625 ILCS 5/3-699 new) |
| 7 | | Sec. 3-699. U.S. Coast Guard license plates. |
| 8 | | (a) In addition to any other special license plate, the |
| 9 | | Secretary, upon
receipt of all applicable fees and applications |
| 10 | | made in the form prescribed
by the Secretary of State, may |
| 11 | | issue U.S. Coast Guard license plates to
residents of Illinois |
| 12 | | who meet eligibility requirements prescribed by the
Secretary |
| 13 | | of State. The special U.S. Coast Guard plate issued under this
|
| 14 | | Section shall be affixed only to passenger vehicles of the |
| 15 | | first division,
motorcycles, and motor vehicles of the second |
| 16 | | division weighing not more than
8,000 pounds. Plates issued |
| 17 | | under this Section shall expire according to the
staggered |
| 18 | | multi-year procedure established by Section 3-414.1 of this |
| 19 | | Code. |
| 20 | | (b) The plates shall display the U.S. Coast Guard emblem. |
| 21 | | In all other
respects, the design, color, and format of the |
| 22 | | plates shall be within the
discretion of the Secretary of |
