Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides for issuance of U.S. Coast Guard license plates, with eligibility requirements to be determined by the Secretary of State. Effective immediately.

1 | | AN ACT concerning transportation.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
4 | | Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding |
5 | | Section 3-699 as follows: |
6 | | (625 ILCS 5/3-699 new) |
7 | | Sec. 3-699. U.S. Coast Guard license plates. |
8 | | (a) In addition to any other special license plate, the |
9 | | Secretary, upon
receipt of all applicable fees and applications |
10 | | made in the form prescribed
by the Secretary of State, may |
11 | | issue U.S. Coast Guard license plates to
residents of Illinois |
12 | | who meet eligibility requirements prescribed by the
Secretary |
13 | | of State. The special U.S. Coast Guard plate issued under this
|
14 | | Section shall be affixed only to passenger vehicles of the |
15 | | first division,
motorcycles, and motor vehicles of the second |
16 | | division weighing not more than
8,000 pounds. Plates issued |
17 | | under this Section shall expire according to the
staggered |
18 | | multi-year procedure established by Section 3-414.1 of this |
19 | | Code. |
20 | | (b) The plates shall display the U.S. Coast Guard emblem. |
21 | | In all other
respects, the design, color, and format of the |
22 | | plates shall be within the
discretion of the Secretary of |
23 | | State. The Secretary may, in his or her
discretion, allow the |
