Amends the Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act. Prohibits an offer of a product or service to a consumer for a free trial period if, as a result of accepting the product or service for the free trial period, the consumer is required to contact the merchant to avoid receiving additional products or services and incurring a financial obligation for those additional products or services. Provides that a violation constitutes an unlawful practice within the meaning of the Act.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

4 | | Section 5. The Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business |
5 | | Practices Act is amended by adding Section 2QQQ as follows: |
6 | | (815 ILCS 505/2QQQ new) |
7 | | Sec. 2QQQ. Charges after trial period. A person may not |
8 | | offer a consumer a product or service for a free trial period |
9 | | if, as a result of accepting the product or service for the |
10 | | free trial period, the consumer is required to contact the |
11 | | merchant to avoid receiving additional products or services and |
12 | | incurring a financial obligation for those additional products |
13 | | or services. |
14 | | Violation of this Section constitutes an unlawful practice |
15 | | within the meaning of this Act.
