AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 3112

2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 3112 by replacing
3everything after the enacting clause with the following:
 
4    "Section 5. The School Code is amended by changing Section
521B-65 as follows:
 
6    (105 ILCS 5/21B-65)
7    Sec. 21B-65. National Board for Professional Teaching
8Standards. Individuals holding certification issued by the
9National Board for Professional Teaching Standards shall be
10issued a National Board for Professional Teaching Standards
11designation on an existing Professional Educator License. The
12designation shall be issued automatically and added to an
13individual's Professional Educator License, and individuals
14need not submit an application.
15    The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards
16designation must be issued only for the same validity period as

1the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards
2certification, and the designation must be removed from the
3Professional Educator License when the educator no longer holds
4the certification from the National Board for Professional
5Teaching Standards.
6    Any licensee holding a current National Board for
7Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) Master Teacher
8designation during any particular fiscal year shall complete a
9minimum of 5 hours of professional development, which may
10include providing professional development that aligns to
11NBPTS standards, for each year of the renewal cycle. A total of
1250 hours of professional development per 5-year renewal cycle
13must be completed in order to renew a license.
14    Beginning on July 1, 2013, individuals holding an Illinois
15National Board for Professional Teaching Standards endorsement
16issued pursuant to the requirements of Section 21-2 of this
17Code must have a current certificate issued by the National
18Board for Professional Teaching Standards in order to maintain
19the Illinois National Board for Professional Teaching
20Standards endorsement.
21    Any individual who, on or after July 1, 2012, has been
22issued a Master Certificate pursuant to Section 21-2 of this
23Code or a National Board for Professional Teaching Standards
24designation on a Professional Educator License pursuant to this
25Section may work as a teacher only in an area for which he or
26she holds the required Illinois endorsement. Any individual

1who, prior to June 30, 2012, has been issued an endorsement for
2a particular area on a Master Certificate may work as a teacher
3in that area even without having been issued the required
4Illinois endorsement.
