Amends the Carbon Monoxide Alarm Detector Act. Requires the State Fire Marshal to adopt rules requiring the installation of approved carbon monoxide alarms in the following buildings built after the effective date of this amendatory Act of the 98th General Assembly: (i) public schools, as defined in Section 1-3 of the School Code, (ii) non-public schools recognized by the State Board of Education, and (iii) day care centers, as defined in Section 2.09 of the Child Care Act of 1969.

| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

| 4 | | Section 5. The Carbon Monoxide Alarm Detector Act is |
| 5 | | amended by adding Section 11 as follows:

| 7 | | Sec. 11. Carbon monoxide alarms in schools and day care |
| 8 | | centers. The State Fire Marshal shall adopt rules requiring the |
| 9 | | installation of approved carbon monoxide alarms in the |
| 10 | | following buildings built after the effective date of this |
| 11 | | amendatory Act of the 98th General Assembly: (i) public |
| 12 | | schools, as defined in Section 1-3 of the School Code, (ii) |
| 13 | | non-public schools recognized by the State Board of Education, |
