HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Autism spectrum disorders can affect all
3individuals, regardless of racial, ethnic, economic, and
4social groups; and
 
5    WHEREAS, About 1 in 88 children have been identified with
6an autism spectrum disorder; and
 
7    WHEREAS, About 1 in 6 children in the United States had a
8developmental disability in 2006-2008; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Autism spectrum disorders are more common than
10pediatric cancer, diabetes, and AIDS combined; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
12NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
13SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we urge the administrators of
14all museums and zoos in the State of Illinois to have a day
15during the month of April, which is Autism Awareness Month,
16dedicated to individuals with autism spectrum disorders for the
17purpose of urging the public to become more aware and educated
18on autism spectrum disorders and to give families with a loved
19one affected by autism spectrum disorder a day where they can
20enjoy museums and zoos at their leisure; and be it further

1    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be made
2available to every museum and zoo in the State of Illinois.
