HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate  and thank the founder and 
4employees of A Place for Me for their work in helping families 
5and children affected by autism; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, A Place for Me is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit 
7foundation founded by Elaine Reeves-Haywood in June of 2002; in 
8creating A Place for Me, she sought to establish an 
9organization that committed to providing services and support 
10to families and children affected by autism; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, The founder and employees of A Place for Me work 
12diligently to fulfill the organization's mission; among its 
13mission goals are providing support for ongoing parent/child 
14issues, voicing concerns for autism related issues, serving as 
15a community resource, providing training and support on various 
16autism-related topics, providing educational assistance to 
17regular and special education students, helping to make and use 
18appropriate visual support to enhance the learning styles of 
19students, helping others to use social stories and role playing 
20to teaching social concepts, helping to educating parents of 
21the laws and their rights regarding autism, and providing 
22social and recreational opportunities; and

1    WHEREAS, A Place for Me has put forth great efforts in 
2raising the awareness of autism in the community; the 
3organization has conducted numerous education workshops, IEP 
4support sessions, and individual parent training sessions with 
5visual aids; the organization has also presented numerous 
6workshops and sponsored several family outings to promote 
7autism awareness, widen inclusion and social interaction of 
8autistic children, and create environments where autistic 
9children can feel comfortable; and

  
 
10    WHEREAS, The great work done by A Place for Me on the 
11behalf of autistic children throughout the State is worthy of 
12the greatest respect; therefore, be it
  
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
14NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
15we congratulate the founder and employees of A Place for Me for 
16their work in helping families and children affected by autism 
17and wish them continued success and happiness in the future; 
18and be it further
  
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
20presented to Elaine Reeves-Haywood as a symbol of our esteem 
21and respect.
