HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate William H. Rahn on the
4occasion of his retirement as Mayor of the Village of Westmont;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, William Rahn was born and raised in Westmont; he
7earned a bachelor's degree in business and marketing and earned
8masters degrees in special education and administration and
9counseling from Northern Illinois University; and
 
10    WHEREAS, William Rahn began his life in public service as
11the volunteer chairperson for the Westmont Cable Television
12Committee in the 1980s; as chairperson, he and the other
13commissioners were successful in negotiating the initial cable
14contract that brought cable TV service to the community and
15leveraged the creation of a state-of-the-art television
16production studio and related services to the Village of
17Westmont, enabling Westmont to be one of the area leaders in
18using cable TV to record and playback government meetings; he
19also served as a chairperson of the Village of Westmont
20Planning and Zoning Commission and member of several other
21committees and was an active member of the DuPage Mayor's and
22Managers Conference; and

1    WHEREAS, William Rahn first ran for elected office in 1983,
2when he was elected to the position of Village Trustee; after 4
3terms as Trustee, he was elected to the position of Mayor in
41999, where he remained until his retirement; as Mayor, he
5emphasized fiduciary responsibility and making sure the
6village government is run efficiently; he has been a strong
7advocate of expanding community business development,
8maintaining quality programs and services for the community,
9and continuing family-friendly community events; and
 
10    WHEREAS, As Mayor and in his personal life, William Rahn
11has held close relationships with the Westmont Chamber of
12Commerce, the Westmont Rotary, the Westmont Lions, the Westmont
13Special Events Corporation, and the Westmont Historical
14Society, where he was a charter member; and
 
15    WHEREAS, William Rahn and his loving wife of 40 years,
16Jill, have 3 children, Peter, Heidi, and Danika; therefore, be
17it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
19NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
20we congratulate William H. Rahn on the occasion of his
21retirement and wish him continued success and happiness in the
22future; and be it further
