HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of former
4Homewood Village President and State Representative Manny
5Hoffman of Homewood, who passed away on February 27, 2013; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Manny Hoffman was born on February 22, 1937; he
7graduated from Hirsch High School in 1955; he married Judy in
81958 and moved to Homewood in 1963; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Manny Hoffman was a long-time insurance agent with
10State Farm and owned and operated the Manny Hoffman State Farm
11Insurance Agency in Homewood for 34 years; he was a lifetime
12member of the State Farm President's Club, an organization of
13the company's top 50 agents nationwide; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Manny Hoffman was well-known for his diverse and
15active career of service in the Homewood-Flossmor area; he was
16president of the Homewood-Flossmor Park District's board of
17commissioners, chairman of the Cook County Republican Party,
18and was on the board for the Cancer Support Center, Irons Oaks,
19and the Prairie State College Foundation; he was an honorary
20board member of the Jennifer Fallick Cancer Support Center; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Manny Hoffman and his wife, Judy, were inducted

1into Homewood's Hall of Fame in October 2008; his first office
2was secretary of the village's volunteer fire department; he
3was village trustee from 1977 to 1985 and mayor from 1985 to
41991; he was active in the Jaycees and co-chaired biennial
5celebrations in 1976; he also served as a member of the Rich
6Township Board from 2008 to 2011; and
 
7    WHEREAS, The Village of Homewood named a street Manny
8Hoffman Way to honor his service; he was awarded the Spirit of
9Life Award in 2006; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Manny Hoffman represented the 37th District in the
11Illinois General Assembly from 1991 to 1993; he was appointed
12to the Illinois Labor Relations Board by Gov. Jim Edgar in 1993
13and re-appointed to his fourth term as chairman by Gov. George
14H. Ryan; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Manny Hoffman was preceded in death by his wife,
16Judy; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Manny Hoffman is survived by his children, Larry,
18Debbie, and Julie; and his grandson; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
20NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
21we mourn the passing of former Homewood Village President and

1State Representative Manny Hoffman, and we extend our sincere
2condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
3him; and be it further
 
4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
