HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, It is antithetical to the principles of American
3democracy for the government of the United States to use drones
4to conduct criminal investigations of U.S. citizens without a
5warrant; and
 
6    WHEREAS, U.S. Attorney General, Eric Holder, recently
7opined before the Senate Judiciary Committee that targeted
8killings of American citizens by drones on U.S. soil might be
9justified, but refused to release the legal memoranda
10supporting that position; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
12NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
13we urge the Illinois congressional delegation to eliminate the
14threat of drones being used to conduct warrantless searches of
15U.S. citizens by supporting the passage of the Preserving
16Freedom from Unwarranted Surveillance Act (S. 3287); and be it
17further
 
18    RESOLVED, That we urge U.S. Attorney General Holder to
19publicly release the legal memoranda supporting the use of
20drone strikes against American citizens on U.S. soil; and be it

1    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
2delivered to the members of the Illinois congressional
3delegation and the Attorney General of the United States.
