HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Brotherhood of Locomotive
3Engineers and Trainmen will celebrate the 150th anniversary of
4the union's founding on May 8, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, The Brotherhood was founded in Marshall, Michigan
6by a farsighted group of practical locomotive engineers who
7were among America's labor union pioneers; and
 
8    WHEREAS, The visionary founders of the Brotherhood
9entrusted the leadership of this fledgling organization to the
10capable direction of W.D. Robinson of Detroit, Michigan; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Over a century and a half of dedicated service by
12the Brotherhood to locomotive engineers, the railroads, and
13working men and women everywhere attests to the remarkable
14leadership provided by Mr. Robinson and his successors and to
15the strength of the dedication and loyalty of members of the
16Brotherhood throughout the years; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Today, as a modern national union and a division
18of the Teamsters Rail Conference, the Brotherhood is ably led
19by its President, Dennis R. Pierce, at its headquarters in
20Cleveland, Ohio, and maintains its traditional concern for the
21well-being of those whose labor has contributed, and continues

1to contribute, to our great standard of living; therefore, be
2it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
4NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
5we congratulate the members of the Brotherhood of Locomotive
6Engineers and Trainmen on the 150th anniversary of the union's
7founding and extend our best wishes to them in their future
8endeavors on behalf of working people; and be it further
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to Paul S. Piekarski, State Legislative Chairman for
11the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen/Teamsters
12Rail Conference.
