HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representative are pleased to congratulate Michael J.
4Vinciguerra Ph.D. on the occasion of his retirement as
5president of the University of St. Francis; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Michael Vinciguerra became the 8th president of
7the University of St. Francis on October 4, 2002; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Under the leadership of Michael Vinciguerra, the
9university developed a plan that gave focus and direction in
10defining the University of St. Francis as a Catholic university
11in the Franciscan tradition and Joliet's urban university with
12a national presence; he led the campus and trustees to adopt a
1315-year plan that acquired new properties and saw major
14renovations in Marian Hall and the Motherhouse; in May 2012,
15the largest capital campaign in university history, Continuing
16the Tradition, Living Our Mission, was successfully completed;
17and
 
18    WHEREAS, During the tenure of Michael Vinciguerra, the
19University of St. Francis established a Health and Wellness
20Center in Joliet, a physician assistant program in New Mexico
21to serve the rural poor, and a visual arts program in locations
22where students may interact with children in community centers;

1during his tenure, the first doctoral programs were introduced
2in Nurse Practitioner and Educational Leadership; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Michael Vinciguerra has served on numerous
4community and higher education boards such as Presence St.
5Joseph Medical Center's board of directors, presently the
6vice-chair, the Will County CED, Will County Community
7Foundation, Joliet Area Historical Museum, and The Upper Room
8Crisis Hotline; he is a past chair of the South Metropolitan
9Higher Education Consortium and has served on the executive
10board of the Federation of Independent Illinois Colleges and
11Universities; in December 2012, he joined the board of
12directors at Maryville College in Maryville, Tennessee; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Michael Vinciguerra was inducted into the
14Joliet-Will County Project Pride's Hall of Pride in 2011, which
15recognizes those who contributed to making Joliet a better
16place to live and on November 5, 2012, he received the Lifetime
17Achievement Award from the Joliet Region Chamber of Commerce;
18on May 19, 2013, he will be awarded an honorary doctorate from
19Lewis University; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Michael Vinciguerra was born and raised in Bronx,
21New York; he earned his bachelors of science degree in
22chemistry from Iona College and his Ph.D. in physical chemistry
23from Adelphi University; he completed a program in higher

1education senior administration from the Institute of
2Educational Management at Harvard University; he and his wife
3of 42 years, Grace, have one son; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
5NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
6we congratulate Michael J. Vinciguerra on the occasion of his
7retirement as president of the University of St. Francis, thank
8him for his service to higher education, and wish him all the
9best in his future endeavours; and be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to Michael Vinciguerra as an expression of our esteem
12and respect.
