HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives have learned that Jimmy M. Lago, one of our
4State's longest serving social service leaders, is retiring
5from a distinguished career that benefitted people in every
6region of this State; and
 
7    WHEREAS, The career of Jimmy Lago carved a unique niche in
8that he worked for more than 40 years to advance the programs
9and policies of the Catholic Conference of Illinois, Catholic
10Charities, and the Archdiocese of Chicago as a lay person; and
 
11    WHEREAS, His rise through the ranks of church positions and
12responsibilities saw him named Chancellor in 2000, a post never
13previously held by someone outside the clergy; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Jimmy Lago always spoke with a conviction and
15eloquence that embraced the importance of the position and
16demonstrated a keen understanding of the role he played in
17maintaining quality social services in the State; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Jimmy Lago's expertise was recognized by many
19organizations, including the John Howard Association, the SOS
20Children's Village, TASC, and numerous gubernatorial and
21mayoral boards, commissions, and task forces; and

1    WHEREAS, Jimmy Lago's service earned him numerous honors,
2including the Pontifical Equestrian Order of St. Gregory the
3Great from Pope Benedict XVI, the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice
4Medal, the John Courtney Murray Award from the DePaul Law
5School, the University of Illinois' City Partner Award, and
6many other accolades; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Along with more than 40 years of service to
8children and the church, Jimmy Lago is the husband of Maria and
9the father of twin sons, Colin and Adrian; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
12we congratulate Jimmy M. Lago for his career and
13accomplishments and on behalf of the people of the State and
14declare that Illinois is a better place as a result of his
15work; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to Jimmy Lago as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
