HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of LaVerne
4Adrienne Bell, who passed away on September 26, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, LaVerne Bell was born on February 9, 1950 in
6Chicago; her parents were Rev. Walter Willis Jones and Mother
7Luida Mae Jones; and
 
8    WHEREAS, LaVerne Bell accepted Christ as her personal
9Savior at the age of 10 at Portland Street Church of God in
10Christ in Chicago Heights, where she sung as a soloist in the
11choir; she later worshiped faithfully at Faith Temple Church of
12God in Christ under the leadership of Pastor William H.
13Goldsberry in Chicago until her mother passing, at which time
14she began worshiping at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church in
15Harvey; and
 
16    WHEREAS, LaVerne Bell attended Garfield Elementary School,
17Washington Junior High School, and Bloom Trail High School in
18Chicago Heights; she later attended Thornton Community College
19in South Holland; and
 
20    WHEREAS, LaVerne Bell worked at Inland Steel in Chicago
21Heights, Andrew Electrical in Orland Park, and the Universal

1Brush Company in Markham; she also had a great passion for
2cooking and spent many years as a chef at Gino's Steakhouse in
3Harvey and as a manager at the House of Pizza in Dolton; and
 
4    WHEREAS, After her retirement, LaVerne Bell continued to
5serve her community as an election judge with the Cook County
6Board of Elections for many years and as a volunteer work at
7Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey for over 15 years; she
8received numerous awards for her hard work and dedication; she
9also volunteered as a mentor through the American Cancer
10Society, where she guided and encouraged those recovering from
11breast cancer, participated in the Annual Daffodil Program, and
12took part in various breast cancer awareness walks and runs;
13and
 
14    WHEREAS, LaVerne Bell is survived by her daughter, Shavelle
15Danae Bell; her brother, Walter W. Jones, Jr. (Denitra); her
16sister, Audrey McClellon; her many nephews and nieces; her
17caretaker, Kenneth Lamar Holmes; her many cousins; her
18goddaughters and godson; her co-workers; her many friends; and
19her Yorkie, Sasja; and
 
20    WHEREAS, LaVerne Bell was preceded in death by her parents;
21her sister, Rose; her brother; her son, Milo II; and her
22sister-in-law, Annie Lee Bell; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
2NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
3we, along with her family and friends, mourn the passing of
4LaVerne Adrienne Bell; and be it further
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6presented to the family of LaVerne Bell as an expression of our
7sympathy.
