HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Joyce E.
4Skoog of Hinsdale, who passed away on January 25, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Joyce Skoog was born in Chicago on February 21,
61940 to Albert and Florence Anicich; she graduated from Bowen
7High School in Chicago and married Roy A. Skoog; she earned her
8master's degree in adult education from the University of
9Illinois and her Bachelor of Arts in communications and
10management from DePaul University; and
 
11    WHEREAS, During her career, Joyce Skoog held senior
12management positions in fund development, community relations,
13communications, and continuing education; she retired in 2002
14as Senior Vice-President of Institutional Advancement of the
15Aspen Institute; she previously worked for Arthur Anderson, the
16United Way, the University of Illinois at Chicago, and the
17College of DuPage; she served the Village of Hinsdale for 20
18years, holding positions on the Planning Commission, as a
19Trustee on the Village Board, as Chair of the Fire and Police
20Commission, as Chair of the Zoning Board of Appeals, and as the
21first woman President of the Village; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Joyce Skoog served on several boards and civic

1groups in the greater Chicago area and in 2002 was awarded the
2Studs Terkel Humanities Service Award from the Illinois
3Humanities Council; she was on the Executive Committee of the
4Ounce of Prevention Fund Board of Directors and was board Chair
5from 2005 to 2008; she was also a Trustee for the Chicago
6Theological Seminary; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Joyce Skoog was an active member of the Union
8Church of Hinsdale, where she was on the Executive Council and
9had been the Chair of Trustees and Moderator of the Church; she
10continued learning throughout her life and completed a 4-year
11Asian Studies program at the Graham School of the University of
12Chicago and was enrolled in the Basic Program which explores
13Western culture; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Joyce Skoog was preceded in death by her parents;
15and
 
16    WHEREAS, Joyce Skoog is survived by her husband of 54
17years, Roy A. Skoog; her children, Cheryl (Peter A.) Tague,
18Linda (Jeffrey G.) Sluman, Bradley A. Skoog, and Melissa (John
19Christopher) Dunagan; and her grandchildren, William Tague,
20Katie Sluman, Jack Dunagan, and Willa Dunagan; therefore, be it
 
21    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
22NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that

1we mourn the passing of Joyce E. Skoog, and extend our sincere
2condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
3her; and be it further
 
4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5presented to the family of Joyce Skoog as an expression of our
6deepest sympathy.
