| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are pleased to join the Illinois Council on | ||||||
| 4 | Problem Gambling in promoting March of 2014 as National Problem | ||||||
| 5 | Gambling Awareness Month; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Promoting National Problem Gambling Awareness | ||||||
| 7 | Month provides individuals in the problem gambling community an | ||||||
| 8 | opportunity to educate the public and policymakers about the | ||||||
| 9 | social and financial effectiveness of services available for | ||||||
| 10 | problem gambling; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Problem gambling is a public health issue | ||||||
| 12 | affecting millions of Americans of all ages, races, and ethnic | ||||||
| 13 | backgrounds in all communities and which has a significant | ||||||
| 14 | societal and economic cost; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Problem gambling is treatable and treatment is | ||||||
| 16 | effective in minimizing the harm to both individuals and | ||||||
| 17 | society as a whole; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Numerous individuals, professionals, and | ||||||
| 19 | organizations have dedicated their efforts to the education of | ||||||
| 20 | the public about problem gambling and the availability and | ||||||
| 21 | effectiveness of treatment; and | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | WHEREAS, The Illinois Council on Problem Gambling and the | ||||||
| 2 | National Council on Problem Gambling invite all citizens of the | ||||||
| 3 | State of Illinois to participate in National Problem Gambling | ||||||
| 4 | Awareness Month; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, The Illinois Council on Problem Gambling urges | ||||||
| 6 | those with a gambling problem to reach out to their 24-hour | ||||||
| 7 | confidential helpline at 1-800-426-2537 or 1-800-522-4700; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Both the Illinois General Assembly as an | ||||||
| 9 | institution and the members of the General Assembly as | ||||||
| 10 | individuals are in unique positions to help raise awareness of | ||||||
| 11 | problem gambling and the impact it has on the individual, the | ||||||
| 12 | family, and the community; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 13 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 14 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 15 | we designate the month of March of 2014 as Problem Gambling | ||||||
| 16 | Awareness Month in the State of Illinois; and be it further
| ||||||
| 17 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 18 | presented to the Illinois Council on Problem Gambling.
