HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Kathy Bovid on the
4occasion of her early retirement as Associate Director of State
5Government Affairs at Bristol-Myers Squibb; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Kathy Bovid is the Associate Director of State
7Government Affairs at Bristol-Myers Squibb, one of the nation's
8leading BioPhRMA companies; she has worked there for nearly 29
9years, beginning in 1985; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Kathy Bovid has worked tirelessly with state
11government health program administrators, managed care plans,
12legislators, and advocacy organizations to promote disease
13awareness and help improve access to appropriate treatment for
14patients with serious mental health illnesses, cancer,
15HIV/AIDS, diabetes, heart disease, and hepatitis, among
16others; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Kathy Bovid has been a passionate and instrumental
18resource for the General Assembly as a lobbyist on a multitude
19of complex healthcare issues, bringing a wealth of expertise
20from her prior service in posts ranging from Senior Region
21Director of State Government Operations to State Government
22Sales Associate, where she began her work with state

1governments; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Kathy Bovid earned her Master's of Business
3Administration degree from the University of Michigan while
4working as a microbiologist at University Hospital in Michigan;
5she also attained certification as a Medical Technologist by
6the American Society of Clinical Pathology from William
7Beaumont School of Medical Technology and earned a Bachelor of
8Arts degree from Oakland University; and
 
9    WHEREAS, After graduating in 1985, Kathy Bovid accepted a
10sales position with Bristol-Myers Squibb in the State of
11Michigan; after 3 years there, she relocated to Chicago to
12accept a promotion and assist in the creation of a new
13department to improve access to pharmaceuticals for patients
14with serious diseases; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Kathy Bovid was born and raised in Michigan, while
16her father was born in Illinois; her Lithuanian and Swedish
17immigrant grandparents all lived and worked in Chicago in their
18early adult years; and
 
19    WHEREAS, While Kathy Bovid is taking early retirement from
20her responsibilities at Bristol-Myers Squibb, she will remain
21active in a variety of healthcare causes and personal pursuits,
22both professional and as a volunteer in her Chicago Lakeview

1community; therefore, be it
 
2    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
3NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
4we congratulate Kathy Bovid on her remarkable 29 year career in
5healthcare, including most recently as Associate Director of
6State Government Affairs at Bristol-Myers Squibb; and be it
7further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to Kathy Bovid as an expression of our esteem and
10respect.
