2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Gordon |
4 | | Richard Schnulle of Elgin, who passed away on April 21, 2014; |
5 | | and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Gordon Schnulle was born in Elgin on August 25, |
7 | | 1925 to Gordon William and Ethel M. (nee Zornow) Schnulle; he |
8 | | attended school in Elgin and then served in the United States |
9 | | Marine Corps during World War II; he married Dorothy L. Ferhman |
10 | | on May 8, 1948; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Gordon Schnulle served as a corporal from 1942 to |
12 | | 1946 and fought in the pivotal battle at Iwo Jima during World |
13 | | War II; he was part of the 8th wave of Marines to storm the |
14 | | island, serving as a machine gunner in H Company, 3rd |
15 | | Battalion, 28th Marine Regiment, 5th Marine Division and was |
16 | | there for the entirety of the 36-day battle, which saw his |
17 | | company of Marines reduced to only 39 soldiers from |
18 | | approximately 266; and
|
19 | | WHEREAS, Following his service, Gordon Schnulle was |
20 | | employed for many years at the Elgin Corrugated Box Company as |
21 | | head maintenance man; he also obtained his real estate license |
22 | | and his General Education Diploma, having dropped out of school |

1 | | to enlist in the military at age 16; and
|
2 | | WHEREAS, Gordon Schnulle was an accomplished knife maker, |
3 | | taxidermist, doll house maker, and after 9/11, spent countless |
4 | | hours speaking on behalf of service men and women; and |
5 | | WHEREAS, Gordon Schnulle was preceded in death by his |
6 | | parents, and by his son, Ronald Lang; and |
7 | | WHEREAS, Gordon Schnulle is survived by his wife of 66 |
8 | | years, Dorothy; his sons, Gerald (Marilyn) Lang, Keith (Debbie) |
9 | | Schnulle, Kevin (Pat) Schnulle, and daughter-in-law, Vicki |
10 | | Lang; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; as well as |
11 | | countless other friends and relatives; therefore, be it
|
12 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
13 | | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
14 | | we mourn the passing of Gordon Richard Schnulle, and extend our |
15 | | sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew |
16 | | and loved him; and be it further

17 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
18 | | presented to the family of Gordon Schnulle as an expression of |
19 | | our deepest sympathy.
