HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Lance
4Corporal Steven M. Hancock of Coal City, who passed away on May
519, 2014 during a training exercise in North Carolina with the
6United States Marine Corps; and
 
7    WHEREAS, LCpl. Steven Hancock was born on May 24, 1993 in
8Joliet; he was the son of Michael and Susan (nee Healy)
9Hancock; and
 
10    WHEREAS, LCpl. Steven Hancock was raised and educated in
11Coal City, graduating from Coal City High School with the class
12of 2011; he was also a member of the First Christian Church of
13Morris since 1999; and
 
14    WHEREAS, LCpl. Steven Hancock was a very active member of
15the Boy Scouts of America and a member of Boy Scout Troop 466,
16having earned his Eagle Scout designation in 2011; he was also
17an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing; and
 
18    WHEREAS, LCpl. Steven Hancock joined the United States
19Marine Corps on March 5, 2012 and was attached to the 2nd
20Marine Aircraft Wing; he served as the crew chief of a V-22
21Osprey, a tilt-rotor aircraft that is designed to take off and

1land like a helicopter, but flies like a plane; and
 
2    WHEREAS, LCpl. Steven Hancock is survived by his parents,
3Michael and Susan Hancock; 2 sisters, Julia Hancock and Mallory
4Hancock; paternal grandparents, James and Karen Hancock;
5maternal grandfather, Arthur Lietz; and many aunts, uncles, and
6cousins; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
9we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of
10United States Marine Corps Lance Corporal Steven M. Hancock;
11and be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of LCpl. Steven Hancock as an
14expression of our sympathy.
