HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to recognize Abdheja "Abby" Mohansundr on her Bharathanatyam dancing skills and her instruction and promotion of the dance to future generations; and

WHEREAS, Abby Mohansundr was born on April 10, 1997 in India to Mohansundr Govindarjulu and Jayanthi Mohansundr; she and her family immigrated to the United States in 1999 and eventually all became American citizens; and

WHEREAS, As a toddler, Abby Mohansundr could not stop dancing; she started learning Bharathanatyam at the age of 7 when her mother sent her to Bharathanatyam school; she continued learning and mastering her skills, being encouraged by her teachers, friends, and family, and eventually mastered the art; and

WHEREAS, Abby Mohansundr began to choreograph dances for herself and others at age 13; her intense dedication to her art has motivated her to teach the ancient dance to young kids; she has performed Bharathanatyam for cultural events, religious events, fund raising, charity, 4th of July celebrations, community awareness programs, and for several social and community causes; and

WHEREAS, This summer, Abby Mohansundr is going to have her arrangetram (graduation), a solo-debut performance, in a 3-hour concert in front of an audience of artists, patrons, and connoisseurs of the fine arts at the Elgin Performing Arts Center; and

WHEREAS, Abby Mohansundr wants to start a Bharathanatyam dance school and a dance academy internationally renowned for integrity to tradition and for choreographic innovation; the dance school will guide hundreds of students through intensive training and cultural immersive experiences; and

WHEREAS, Abby Mohansundr is President of the Health Club at Hoffman Estates High School and the director of S.A.D.D. (Students against Drunk Driving); she actively contributes in Theater Guides, the Junior Class Club, the Multicultural Club, the PALS club, and is a proud member of National Honors Society; she is also member of The National Student Leadership Conference, a volunteer at St. Alexius Medical Center and Hospital, and a summer intern at the Department of Flow Cytometery and Immunology at the University of Illinois in Chicago; her art work has been selected as one of the best among the students of Hoffman Estates High School in 2013 and has been displayed at the Schaumburg Public Library; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize Abdheja "Abby" Mohansundr on her Bharathanatyam dancing skills and her instruction and promotion of the dance to future generations; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Abby Mohansundr as an expression of our esteem and respect.
