HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, On July 27, 2014, the State of Illinois lost one
3of its most extraordinary residents when Brooke Whitted passed
4away; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Brooke Whitted touched the lives of many over his
667 years, but none as significantly as the children who needed
7special education services and their families; and
 
8    WHEREAS, From the start of his professional career as a
9Cook County Juvenile Probation Officer in 1969 through his
10service as board chairman of the organization that operates the
11Sonia Shankman Orthogenic School and the Hyde Park Day School
12to his work with the Illinois School Bullying Prevention Task
13Force, Brooke Whitted demonstrated a commitment to ensuring
14that each child was afforded every available program and
15service that was necessary to help them live their lives to the
16fullest; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Brooke's commitment to the young was further
18evidenced when he co-founded the Harold and Rosemarie Marx
19Memorial Fund which both honored the memory of a probation
20officer colleague and raised funds to allow officers to take
21children to cultural and entertainment events; and

1    WHEREAS, Brooke's boundless energy led him to teach
2psychiatry and the law at the Rush University Medical College
3and the University of Illinois College of Medicine for many
4years; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Brooke's dedication to children and families
6included his service on the Illinois Community and Residential
7Services Authority, a unique and effective State agency helping
8Illinois children with complex emotional challenges locate the
9services they need; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Brooke Whitted leaves Illinois with a legacy of
11important and lasting achievements that should be a model for
12all who advocate for children here in the State and across the
13nation; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
15NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
16we mourn the passing of Brooke Whitted and express our
17sympathies to his wife, Linda, his daughter, Layne, his son,
18Ross, and the numerous members of his extended family, whom he
19also loved and supported; and be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That we declare that Illinois is a much better
21place due to the energy, integrity, intellect, and caring of
22Brooke Whitted; and be it further

2presented to the family of Brooke Whitted as an expression of
3our sympathy.
