AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 1370

2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 1370 by replacing
3everything after the enacting clause with the following:
 
4    "Section 5. The Township Code is amended by changing
5Sections 50-5 and 50-15 as follows:
 
6    (60 ILCS 1/50-5)
7    Sec. 50-5. Time of election and terms outside Cook County.
8    (a) Except as provided for Cook County in Section 50-10,
9and subject to the requirements of the general election law and
10the referendum provisions in Sections 50-25 and 50-30, at the
11time of the regular township election provided in the general
12election law, there shall be elected one township collector.
13Except as provided in subsection (a) of Section 50-15, the The
14collector shall hold his or her office for a term of 4 years
15and until a successor is elected and qualified.
16    (b) At the time of the regular township election provided

1in the general election law, there shall be elected a township
2supervisor. The supervisor shall be ex-officio supervisor of
3general assistance. The supervisor shall hold office for a term
4of 4 years and until a successor is elected and qualified.
5    (c) At the time of the regular township election provided
6in the general election law, there shall be elected one
7township clerk. The clerk shall hold office for a term of 4
8years and until a successor is elected and qualified.
9    (d) At the time of the regular township election provided
10in the general election law, there shall be elected by ballot
11one township or multi-township assessor, as the case may be, in
12the manner provided in the general election law. Except as
13provided in subsection (c) of Section 50-15, the The assessor
14shall hold office for a term of 4 years and until a successor
15is elected and qualified.

18    Sec. 50-15. Time of entering upon duties.
19    (a) In all counties, the township collectors elected at
20elections held prior to the 2017 consolidated election the
21township election shall enter upon their duties on January 1
22next following their election and qualification.
23    In all counties, the term of each township collector
24elected at the consolidated election held in 2017 shall begin
25on January 1, 2018 and shall end on the third Monday of May

1following the next consolidated election. Thereafter, all
2township collectors shall serve a term of 4 years beginning on
3the third Monday of May following their election.
4    (b) In all counties, township supervisors and township
5clerks shall enter upon their duties on the third Monday of May
6following their election.
7    (c) Beginning with elections in 1981 and through the
8consolidated election held in 2013, in all counties, the
9township and multi-township assessors shall enter upon their
10duties on January 1 next following their election.
11    In all counties, the term of the assessor or multi-township
12assessor elected at the consolidated election held in 2017
13shall begin on January 1, 2018 and shall end on the third
14Monday of May following the next consolidated election.
15Thereafter, all assessors or multi-township assessors shall
16serve a term of 4 years beginning on the third Monday of May
17following their election.

19    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
20becoming law.".
