SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
820 ILCS 275/40 new

    Amends the Workplace Violence Prevention Act. Provides that the Act does not apply to the monitoring of compliance with certain worker safety laws, lawful picketing, or the exercise of the right of free speech or assembly that is otherwise lawful. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning employment.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Workplace Violence Prevention Act is amended
5by adding Section 40 as follows:
 
6    (820 ILCS 275/40 new)
7    Sec. 40. Exemption.
8    (a) This Act does not apply to any individual or
9organization (i) monitoring or attentive to compliance with
10public or worker safety laws, wage and hour requirements, or
11other statutory requirements or (ii) picketing, patrolling,
12using a banner, or otherwise protesting, occurring at the
13workplace that is otherwise lawful and arises out of a bona
14fide labor dispute including any controversy concerning wages,
15salaries, hours, working conditions or benefits, including
16health and welfare, sick leave, insurance, and pension or
17retirement provisions, the making or maintaining of collective
18bargaining agreements, and the terms to be included in those
19agreements.
20    (b) This Act does not apply to an exercise of the right of
21free speech or assembly that is otherwise lawful.
 
22    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
