SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Judy Tucker, who passed away on January
421, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Judy Tucker was born on September 1, 1943, in
6Cincinnati, Ohio; in 1955, she and her family moved to Markham,
7where she was raised and completed her formal education; after
8traveling throughout the country as a military wife with her
9former spouse and 5 children, she remarried and moved her
10family to Chicago in 1972; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Judy Tucker attended Victor Business School in
12Evergreen Park in 1971; after graduation, she became affiliated
13with the WIN Program (Work Initiative Program), where she
14acquired employment as an intern with United States
15Representative Ralph Metcalfe Sr.; after the WIN internship,
16she served as the Executive Secretary to Committeeman Metcalfe
17Sr. in the 3rd Ward Regular Democratic Organization from 1972
18to 1975; she also served as the Congressional Aide to
19Congressman Metcalfe from 1976 until his death in October of
201978; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Continuing her career in government, Judy Tucker
22served as the Executive Secretary/Office Manager to Ralph

1Metcalfe Jr., Candidate for Alderman of the 3rd Ward Regular
2Democratic Organization, from 1978 to 1980; from 1980 to 1982,
3she worked for Rachel R. Ridley, the Director of the City of
4Chicago Commission on Human Relations; she later worked for
5Alderman Tyrone Kenner as the Secretary of Public Utilities
6from 1982 to 1983 and as the Secretary of the Committee on
7Finance from 1983 to 1985; and
 
8    WHEREAS, On the recommendation of then-Alderman Bobby
9Rush, Judy Tucker was recommended for the position of Office
10Manager to Commissioner Jerry Butler during Butler's
11successfully candidacy for Cook County Commissioner from 1985
12to 1986; in 1986, Alderman Rush extended an offer to her to
13serve as his Executive Secretary in the 2nd Ward Regular
14Democratic Organization; since his elevation to Honorable U.S.
15Congressman of the First Congressional District in 1992, Judy
16has held several key positions under Congressman Bobby Rush's
17tutelage, most notably as the Director of Constituent Services,
18where she served until her passing; as Director of Constituent
19Services, she successfully developed valuable working
20relationships with many constituents both on the governmental
21and non-governmental levels; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Judy Tucker was a faithful member of Miracle House
23of Prayer Church in Chicago; and

1    WHEREAS, Judy Tucker is survived by her loving husband of
238 years, Elisheous Tucker, and her 5 children; therefore, be
3it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
5ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
6her family and friends, the passing of Judy Tucker; and be it
7further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to the family of Judy Tucker as an expression of our
10sympathy.
