1 | | SENATE RESOLUTION
|
2 | | WHEREAS, The United States Postal Service plans to reduce |
3 | | delivery service from six days a week to five days a week, |
4 | | beginning in August of 2013; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, American businesses, organizations, and citizens |
6 | | have depended on six-day mail service for the timely delivery |
7 | | of important documents since 1912; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Eliminating Saturday delivery will affect most |
9 | | Americans, but particularly rural residents, senior citizens, |
10 | | small businesses, and working families who rely on the postal |
11 | | service for receipt of their paychecks; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, The reduction in service will inevitably create a |
13 | | backlog of undelivered mail, as postal workers will have fewer |
14 | | days in which to handle the same amount of mail; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, This backlog will delay mail delivery or increase |
16 | | the cost of postal service, as postal employees work overtime |
17 | | hours to ensure timely delivery of the mail; therefore, be it
|
18 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL |
19 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we urge the United |
20 | | States Postal Service to reconsider its decision and urge the |
