SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Obesity in our nation has led to an epidemic rise
3in the number people with heart disease and heart problems; and
 
4    WHEREAS, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
5estimates that, this year, nearly 600,000 Americans will die
6from heart disease - nearly 1 in 4 deaths - and nearly 715,000
7Americans will have their first, and for some, their last heart
8attack; and
 
9    WHEREAS, A change in diet and exercising more has been
10proven to prevent harmful heart conditions, the use of AEDs and
11proper administration of CPR has been proven to increase
12survival rates in victims of heart attacks; and
 
13    WHEREAS, The American Heart Association formally endorsed
14CPR as a life-saving technique in 1963; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Since the inception of AEDs in 1947 on a
1614-year-old patient, they have been used to save the lives of
17countless people; and
 
18    WHEREAS, It is a priority of this body to raise awareness
19of the proper use and techniques for performing CPR and using
20AEDs in society at large; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
2ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we designate the month
3of May of 2013 and 2014 as AED and CPR Education Awareness
4Month in the State of Illinois in order to save the lives of
5future generations.
