SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Gerald "Jerry" VanWinkle of Peoria, who
4passed away on August 9, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gerald VanWinkle was born on March 23, 1938 in
6Peoria; his parents were John D. and Velda M. (Foster)
7VanWinkle; he married Carol Hagel on October 2, 1970, in
8Havana; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Gerald VanWinkle graduated from Manual High
10School; he subsequently attended Bradley University for
11mechanical engineering; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Gerald VanWinkle retired from Caterpillar as a
13journeyman millwright, working in Research and Development at
14the Caterpillar Technical Center in Mossville; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Gerald VanWinkle was a life member of Illinois
16Lodge 263, the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, and Mohammed
17Temple, Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic
18Shrine; he was a life member of the Society of Hospitalers, a
19Thrice Potent Master and life member of the Valley of Peoria
20Scottish Rite, and a life member of American Veterans (AMVETS);
21he was also a member of the Midwest Gun Collectors Association,

1for which he taught basic safety, and of the Midwest Cruisers
2Association, where he enjoyed showing his 1979 green Ford truck
3at cruise-ins; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Gerald VanWinkle enjoyed spending time at
5Wildlife Prairie State Park and with his horses, Bobbie and
6Sissy; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Gerald VanWinkle was preceded in death by his
8parents and his brother, Ron VanWinkle; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Gerald VanWinkle is survived by his wife, Carol;
10his children, Lynn Kerley, Mark (DiAnna) Kerley, Jerry (Kelly)
11Kerley, and Michelle (Rob) Banta; his 11 grandchildren; his 7
12great-grandchildren; his niece, Rhonda Dyess; and his
13sister-in-law, Kay VanWinkle; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
16family and friends, mourn the passing of Gerald "Jerry"
17VanWinkle; and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Gerald VanWinkle as an expression of
20our sympathy.
