SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Walter Schmidt of Waukegan, who passed
4away on November 3, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Walter Schmidt was born on September 21, 1930 in
6Chicago; his parents were Roman and Carolyn Schmidt; he married
7Eileen Kaas in 1957; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Walter Schmidt graduated from St. Michael's
9Grammar School and Lane Tech High School; he subsequently
10earned his Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the
11Illinois Institute of Technology; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Walter Schmidt served his country as a member of
13the United States Army for 2 years; during his time in the
14Army, he served in Germany for one year; and
 
15    WHEREAS, After working for Wilson and Company for a short
16time, Walter Schmidt accepted a job with the Linde Division of
17Union Carbide; he later worked at North Chicago Refiners and
18Smelters as a plant engineer until his retirement in 1996; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Walter Schmidt was an active member of the
20German-American Club - DANK Chapter of Lake County, the

1American Institute of Plant Engineers, and the Waukegan Moose
2Lodge; he also served as a volunteer at Vista Medical Center
3East Hospital; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Walter Schmidt was preceded in death by his wife,
5Eileen, and his parents; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Walter Schmidt is survived by his children,
7Kathryn (Steve) Wells, Sharon (Bruce) Jordan, Sandra (Nick)
8Godellas, Wayne (Ruth) Schmidt, and Kenneth (Linda) Schmidt;
9his grandchildren, Austin, Erika, Lauren, Chelsea, Joy,
10Nicole, Gregory, Jennifer, Stephanie, Ashley, Christopher
11(Liz) Rathbone, and Candice; his great-grandchildren, Bryce
12Langdon, Kyler Becker, and Addison Rathbone; his brothers,
13Roman and Herbert; and his close friend, Gert Vardeman;
14therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
17family and friends, mourn the passing of Walter Schmidt; and be
18it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Walter Schmidt as an expression of
21our sympathy.
