2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Robert "Bob" Popovich, who passed away on |
4 | | November 18, 2013; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Robert Popovich was born on November 21, 1931 in |
6 | | East Chicago, Indiana; he graduated from Ball State University |
7 | | in 1954 with a degree in Business Education and Business |
8 | | Administration; he was Vice-President of the Senior Class and a |
9 | | founding member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and played |
10 | | varsity baseball and tennis; he later earned a master's degree |
11 | | from the University of Chicago and served in the United States |
12 | | Army from 1954 to 1956; he married Elizabeth C. |
13 | | McArthey-Nantell in 1955; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, Robert Popovich began his teaching career at |
15 | | Thornwood Fractional High School in Calumet City; he was a |
16 | | guidance counselor at Homewood-Flossmoor High School in |
17 | | Flossmoor and a guidance director at Warren Central High School |
18 | | in Indianapolis, Indiana; he was the founding President of both |
19 | | the Illinois and Indiana School Counselors' Association and |
20 | | officiated both high school and college basketball games; he |
21 | | was an adjunct instructor at Indiana University and taught |
22 | | psychology at McHenry County College from 1968 until his |
23 | | retirement in 1992; he was recognized as a "teacher of the |

1 | | year" many times throughout his career; and
|
2 | | WHEREAS, Robert Popovich also worked as a real estate |
3 | | broker in McHenry, earning multiple top awards over the years; |
4 | | and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Robert Popovich spent much of his retirement |
6 | | advocating for better services for those with brain injuries; |
7 | | he helped establish the McHenry County Brain Injury Task Force, |
8 | | served as a resource on various advisory committees at the |
9 | | Rehab Institute of Chicago, and served as a Vice-President of |
10 | | the Illinois Brian Injury Association; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Robert Popovich is survived by his wife, |
12 | | Elizabeth; his children, Marcia (Tom) Munn, David (Haleema), |
13 | | Jeffery, Thomas, Nancy E. Popovich, and Scott (Jerly); his |
14 | | grandchildren, David, Sarah, Rachel, Jack, Julia, Jillian, |
15 | | Keirsten, and Joshua; his sister, former Indiana State Senator |
16 | | Rose Ann Antich; his nephew, March Antich; and thousands of |
17 | | former students; therefore, be it

18 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL |
19 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
20 | | Robert "Bob" Popovich, and extend our sincere condolences to |
21 | | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
