SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Mary Lou Burgess (nee Cooper) of Batavia,
4formerly of Geneva, who passed away on February 2, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mary Lou Burgess was born on September 24, 1919 in
6Aurora; she married Frank Kendall Burgess in 1942 and they were
7married for 63 years until his death in 2005; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Mary Lou Burgess attended West Aurora High School;
9in 1941, she received her degree from Northwestern University,
10where she was a member of the Alpha Phi Sorority; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Mary Lou Burgess was the owner of Robin's
12Bookshop, a delightful shop she had visited since her childhood
13and dreamt to own, known for its extensive assortment of books,
14especially children's and rare books, for 15 years; during that
15time, she served as President of the Third Street Merchants
16Association; she also served as a 6th and 7th grade teacher in
17Aurora public schools; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Mary Lou Burgess was a community volunteer,
19serving on the local school board, the hospital Women's Board,
20and other organizations; and

1    WHEREAS, Mary Lou Burgess was a long-time member of the
2First Congregational Church of Geneva United Church of Christ,
3where she looked forward to attending Sunday services and the
4wonderful musical programs; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mary Lou Burgess is survived by her children,
6Nancy Burgess True (John), Peter (Nancy), Bradford (Claudia),
7and Craig (Debra); her 10 grandchildren; and her 13
8great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her
11family and friends, mourn the passing of Mary Lou Burgess; and
12be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Mary Lou Burgess as an expression of
15our sympathy.
