|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Marcia Beverly (nee Gray) Martin, widow |
4 | | of former Wheaton Mayor Robert J. Martin, who passed away on |
5 | | February 21, 2014; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Marcia Martin was born in Chicago and grew up in |
7 | | the city's South Shore neighborhood; she graduated from the |
8 | | Illinois Institute of Technology in Architecture in 1956, |
9 | | received her master's degree from North Central College, and |
10 | | studied at the University of Chicago and the Institute of |
11 | | Design; she studied with many artists and architects including: |
12 | | Freeman Schoolcraft, Miles Von Der Rohe, Joshua C. Taylor, |
13 | | Alfred Coldwell, Vivian Crylian, Karen Wahler, John Hinrich, |
14 | | and many others; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Marcia Martin started her career doing |
16 | | architectural drawings of mechanical systems for McDonald's |
17 | | and other businesses and doing some work for the United States |
18 | | Air Force Academy in Colorado; she worked as a substitute |
19 | | teacher in Wheaton Warrenville Unit District 200, and most |
20 | | recently she was a professor of architecture at the College of |
21 | | DuPage; she also designed homes and mechanical systems |
22 | | nationwide and wrote illustrated books, such as "Architectural |
23 | | Design" and "Life in a Small American City: An Artist's View of |

1 | | Wheaton"; and |
2 | | WHEREAS, Marcia Martin was very involved with the Wheaton |
3 | | Center for History and the homeowners association at Waterford |
4 | | Place in downtown Wheaton, as well as many other community |
5 | | organizations; she enjoyed china painting, book clubs, and |
6 | | traveling throughout the country and Europe; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, Marcia Martin was preceded in death by her |
8 | | husband, Robert; her brother, Joseph (the late Eileen); and by |
9 | | 2 of her nieces, Jennifer Brody and Ivy Erlich; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Marcia Martin is survived by her daughter, |
11 | | Elizabeth (Gregory) Cox; her son, Charles B. (Wendy); her |
12 | | grandchildren, Charles R., Justine, Jacob, Joshua, and |
13 | | Zachary; her identical twin sister, Lita H. (the late Dr. |
14 | | Arnold) Brody; and her nieces, Eileen Erlich, Danielle Erlich, |
15 | | and Heidi Goldberg; therefore, be it

16 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL |
17 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
18 | | Marcia Beverly Martin, and extend our sincere condolences to |
19 | | her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it |
20 | | further

21 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
