SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Gene Callahan of Springfield, who passed
4away on August 4, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gene Callahan was a native of Milford; he was a
6graduate of Illinois College in Jacksonville and served in the
7United States Army; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Gene Callahan began his career as a reporter and
9columnist for the Illinois State Register; after his time as a
10reporter, he worked for Democratic office holders, including
11Governors Sam Shapiro and Otto Kerner; he then worked as Chief
12of Staff to Lt. Governor Paul Simon; he worked for Alan Dixon
13for more than 19 years, including when Dixon was State
14Treasurer and Secretary of State; he was Dixon's Chief of Staff
15during his years as a Senator; following his time with Senator
16Dixon, he served as Director of Government Relations for Major
17League Baseball; he was considered a positive influence by both
18sides of the political isle; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Gene Callahan was preceded in death by his son,
20Dan Callahan; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Gene Callahan is survived by his wife, Ann, and by

1his daughters, United States Representative Cheri Bustos and
2Lynn Callahan Riddley; therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
4ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
5Gene Callahan, and extend our sincere condolences to his
6family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
7further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to the family of Gene Callahan as an expression of
10our deepest sympathy.
