SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of John E. Juergensmeyer of Elgin, who
4passed away on September 28, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Juergensmeyer was born in Stewardson on May
614, 1934 to Irvin and Clara (nee Johannaber) Juergensmeyer; he
7graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts from the
8University of Illinois in 1955; he received his Master of Arts
9from Princeton University in 1957 and was a Merrill Foundation
10Fellow; he received his doctorate in politics from Princeton
11University in 1960, where he was a University Fellow, and his
12Juris Doctor from the University of Illinois in 1963; he served
13with the United States Air Force Intelligence Service in Japan
14and other Far East locations; he retired from the service as a
15Reserve Captain; he married Elizabeth Ann Bogart on September
1610, 1963; and
 
17    WHEREAS, John Juergensmeyer began practicing law in Elgin
18in 1963 and was the sole proprietor of Juergensmeyer &
19Associates, P.C.; he served as an Assistant Attorney General
20for the State of Illinois and as both an Assistant State's
21Attorney and an Assistant Public Defender for Kane County; he
22was appointed to the National Commission on Libraries and
23Information Science by President Reagan; he was a member of the

1Kane County, Cook County, Northwest Suburban, and American Bar
2Associations; he served as Chairman of the Local Government Law
3Committees of the Illinois State Bar Association and the
4Chicago Bar Association, and he wrote and lectured extensively
5for numerous professional associations; he was admitted to the
6Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States in 1968; he was a
7former Professor of Constitutional Law and Political Science at
8Judson University in Elgin and served on the teaching faculty
9of the University of Illinois, Northern Illinois University,
10and the University of Hawaii; and
 
11    WHEREAS, John Juergensmeyer was very active in local
12political and civic organizations, including serving as
13Chairman of TLC Pregnancy Services; he was also a member of the
14Board of Directors of the Salvation Army; he was elected as an
15alternate delegate to the National Republican Convention in
161976 and was a past Chairman of the Kane County Republicans; he
17was active in the Elgin Township Republican Central Committee,
18where he served as Secretary; he was a long-time Republican
19precinct committeeman for Precinct 30 in Elgin; he also was
20active in Rotary International; the Jaycees; the Boy Scouts,
21where he was obtained the rank of Eagle Scout in 1950; Centro
22de Informacione; and many other groups; and
 
23    WHEREAS, John Juergensmeyer was a member of Wesley United
24Methodist Church for 38 years, where he served as a lay speaker

1and delegate to district and national conferences; and
 
2    WHEREAS, John Juergensmeyer was preceded in death by his
3parents; a son, Karl; and his sister Carolyn Worley; and
 
4    WHEREAS, John Juergensmeyer is survived by his wife of 51
5years, Dr. Elizabeth Juergensmeyer; daughters, Dr. Margaret
6Juergensmeyer (Brian) and Frances (Fred); granddaughter,
7Kiersten Juergensmeyer; and his brothers, Charles
8Juergensmeyer and Dr. Mark Juergensmeyer (Su Cheng Chan);
9therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12John E. Juergensmeyer, and extend our sincere condolences to
13his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
14further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of John Juergensmeyer as an expression
17of our deepest sympathy.
