2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of James "Jimmy" W. Knight, who passed away | ||||||
4 | on September 13, 2013; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, James Knight was born on June 7, 1935; his parents | ||||||
6 | were John Knight and Mildred Shelton; he married Ollie Burns | ||||||
7 | Thompson in 1956; they were re-married in 2001; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, James Knight completed his early education at | ||||||
9 | Calvin Donaldson Junior High School and Howard High School in | ||||||
10 | Chattanooga, Tennessee; after he was honorably discharged, he | ||||||
11 | subsequently continued his education at the Allied School of | ||||||
12 | Technology's Tool and Die Making program and Kennedy-King | ||||||
13 | College in Chicago; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, James Knight accepted Christ as his personal | ||||||
15 | savior at an early age; he was a faithful member of Parkway | ||||||
16 | Garden Christian Church; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, James Knight served his country as a member of the | ||||||
18 | United States Air Force; he later retired at the rank of | ||||||
19 | Sergeant First Class from the United States Army National | ||||||
20 | Guard's 933rd Military Police Company; and

1 | WHEREAS, James Knight retired from the United States Postal | ||||||
2 | Service after 30 years on the same mail route in the Bridgeport | ||||||
3 | community; after retiring, he enjoyed spending time with his | ||||||
4 | many friends at "his office" and Saturday morning breakfast | ||||||
5 | with his military "family"; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, James Knight was preceded in death by his parents | ||||||
7 | and a daughter, Mildred; and | ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, James Knight is survived by his wife, Dr. Ollie M. | ||||||
9 | Knight; 3 children, Rev. Melody Seaton, Dr. Millicent Knight | ||||||
10 | (Dr. Harvey Echols), and Monica Smith; 8 grandchildren, Kenny | ||||||
11 | Whigham, Michael and Curtis Milner, Veronique (Earnest) Crim | ||||||
12 | Wallace, Ernest (Cassie) Crim, III, Jaylen and Jahmal Smith, | ||||||
13 | and Matthew Echols; 8 great-grandchildren, Chloe, Rassan, | ||||||
14 | Janea, Kwonzel, Nastassja, Meriah, Kiara, and Jamar; 4 | ||||||
15 | godchildren, Wennoa Lewis-Blair and Brenda, Mariner, and | ||||||
16 | Theodore Brinson; 2 cousins, Pamela Dave and Jackie Jones; 3 | ||||||
17 | sisters-in-law, Charlie B. (Jarvis) Stamps, Aggie, and Mamie; a | ||||||
18 | brother-in-law, United States Representative Bennie (London) | ||||||
19 | Thompson; and many other family members and friends; therefore, | ||||||
20 | be it

21 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | ||||||
22 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his | ||||||
23 | family and friends, mourn the passing of James "Jimmy" W. |
