1    AN ACT concerning education.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Silent Reflection and Student Prayer Act is
5amended by changing Section 5 as follows:
 
6    (105 ILCS 20/5)
7    Sec. 5. Student prayer. In order that the right of every
8student to the free exercise of religion is guaranteed within
9the public schools and that each student has the freedom to not
10be subject to pressure from the State either to engage in or to
11refrain from religious observation on public school grounds,
12students in the public schools may, during the school day,
13voluntarily engage in individually or collectively initiated,
14non-disruptive prayer or religious-based meetings, including
15without limitation prayer groups, B I B L E (Basic Instruction
16Before Leaving Earth) clubs, or "meet at the flagpole for
17prayer" days, that, consistent with the Free Exercise and
18Establishment Clauses of the United States and Illinois
19Constitutions, are is not sponsored, promoted, or endorsed in
20any manner by the school or any school employee.
