8 | | Sec. 27-23.11. Screening. School districts shall be |
9 | | required to screen all students enrolled in kindergarten and |
10 | | grade one in the following components of letter naming, letter |
11 | | sound, phoneme segmentation, phonemic awareness, and rapid |
12 | | naming. School districts shall evaluate each student's family |
13 | | history of learning disabilities. School districts shall be |
14 | | required to screen all students enrolled in grade 2 in the |
15 | | components of oral reading fluency, oral reading accuracy, and |
16 | | spelling. School districts may include additional components |
17 | | in each screening. If a student demonstrates a deficiency in |
18 | | any one or more of the components screened, then that student |
19 | | may be provided evidence-based instruction through a |
20 | | multi-tiered system of support. Parents and guardians of |
21 | | students must be informed of the results of screenings required |
22 | | under this Section.

23 | | Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon |
24 | | becoming law.".
