Amends the Pharmacy Practice Act. Provides that, before mailing or shipping a prescription medication to a patient's residence, a pharmacy or nonresident pharmacy must telephone the patient, informing the patient of the type of prescription medication and its purpose and giving the patient the option to cancel delivery of the prescription medication. Effective immediately.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

4 | | Section 5. The Pharmacy Practice Act is amended by adding |
5 | | Section 16c as follows: |
6 | | (225 ILCS 85/16c new) |
7 | | Sec. 16c. Notice to patient prior to shipment of |
8 | | prescription medication. Before mailing or shipping a |
9 | | prescription medication to a patient's residence, a pharmacy or |
10 | | nonresident pharmacy must telephone the patient, informing the |
11 | | patient of the type of prescription medication and its purpose |
12 | | and giving the patient the option to cancel delivery of the |
13 | | prescription medication.

14 | | Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon |
15 | | becoming law.
