Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides for the use of funds in the Illinois Police Association Fund from sale of Illinois Police Association license plates to be allocated as follows: at least 10% for providing death benefits for the families of police officers killed in the line of duty; at least 10% for providing scholarships, for graduate study, undergraduate study, or both, to children and spouses of police officers killed in the line of duty; and the remainder for operational costs of the Illinois Police Association. Effective immediately.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

4 | | Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by changing |
5 | | Section 3-682 as follows: |
6 | | (625 ILCS 5/3-682) |
7 | | Sec. 3-682. Illinois Police Association license plates. |
8 | | (a) The Secretary, upon receipt of an application made in |
9 | | the form prescribed by the Secretary, may issue special |
10 | | registration plates designated as Illinois Police Association |
11 | | license plates. The special plates issued under this Section |
12 | | shall be affixed only to passenger vehicles of the first |
13 | | division and motor vehicles of the second division weighing not |
14 | | more than 8,000 pounds. Plates issued under this Section shall |
15 | | expire according to the multi-year procedure established by |
16 | | Section 3-414.1 of this Code. |
17 | | (b) The design and color of the plates is wholly within the |
18 | | discretion of the Secretary. The Secretary may allow the plates |
19 | | to be issued as vanity plates or personalized under Section |
20 | | 3-405.1 of the Code. The Secretary shall prescribe stickers or |
21 | | decals as provided under Section 3-412 of this Code. The |
22 | | Secretary may, in his or her discretion, allow the plates to be |
23 | | issued as vanity or personalized plates in accordance with |
