| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 | | Section 5. The Illinois Police Training Act is amended by |
| 5 | | adding Section 10.17 as follows:
|
| 6 | | (50 ILCS 705/10.17 new) |
| 7 | | Sec. 10.17. Crisis intervention team training. The |
| 8 | | Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board shall |
| 9 | | develop and approve a standard curriculum for a certified |
| 10 | | training program in crisis intervention addressing specialized |
| 11 | | policing responses to people with mental illnesses. The Board |
| 12 | | shall conduct Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training programs |
| 13 | | that train officers to identify signs and symptoms of mental |
| 14 | | illness, to de-escalate situations involving individuals who |
| 15 | | appear to have a mental illness, and connect that person in |
| 16 | | crisis to treatment. Officers who have successfully completed |
| 17 | | this program shall be issued a certificate attesting to their |
| 18 | | attendance of a Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training |
| 19 | | program.
