Amends the Abused and Neglected Child Reporting Act. Requires the Department of Children and Family Services to determine the military status of each parent or guardian who is named as the alleged perpetrator in a child abuse or neglect report. Provides that if the Department determines that a child's parent or guardian is a service member, the Department shall notify a Department of Defense Family Advocacy Program that there is an allegation of abuse or neglect against the parent or guardian that is open for investigation.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
4 | | Section 5. The Abused and Neglected Child Reporting Act is |
5 | | amended by adding Section 4.4b as follows: |
6 | | (325 ILCS 5/4.4b new) |
7 | | Sec. 4.4b. Department of Children and Family Services' duty |
8 | | to report to a Department of Defense Family Advocacy Program. |
9 | | Whenever the Department receives, by means of its statewide |
10 | | toll-free telephone number established under Section 7.6 for |
11 | | the purpose of reporting suspected child abuse or neglect or by |
12 | | any other means or from any mandated reporter under Section 4 |
13 | | of this Act, a report of suspected abuse or neglect of a child |
14 | | and the child's parent or guardian is named in the report as |
15 | | the alleged perpetrator of the child abuse or neglect, the |
16 | | Department shall make efforts as soon as practicable to |
17 | | determine the military status of the parent or guardian. If the |
18 | | Department determines that the parent or guardian is a service |
19 | | member, the Department shall notify a Department of Defense |
20 | | Family Advocacy Program that there is an allegation of abuse or |
21 | | neglect against the parent or guardian that is open for |
22 | | investigation. |
