HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, 2015 marks the 150th anniversary for Lincoln
3College in Lincoln, Illinois; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Lincoln College is a private liberal arts college,
5fully accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North
6Central Association and established in 1865 to fill the need
7for an institution of higher learning in central Illinois; and
 
8    WHEREAS, A charter for the new college, then known as
9Lincoln University, was secured from the Illinois General
10Assembly on February 6, 1865; ground was broken for University
11Hall, the College's first building, just 6 days later on
12Abraham Lincoln's birthday; and
 
13    WHEREAS, The foundation was completed and the cornerstone
14was laid by September of 1865; instruction for men and women
15began in November of 1866, with the first commencement in 1868
16with 3 graduates; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Lincoln College now has campuses in Lincoln and
18Normal, developing a tradition of personal education long
19before the concept became universally popular; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Lincoln College's mission is to uniquely empower

1students to realize their full potential; the College lives up
2to its motto of "Experience Outstanding" with a faculty
3philosophy, student services, and low faculty-student ratio
4that provides individualized attention to make the difference
5between failure and success for many students; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The Lincoln College experience is more than
7offering academic programs that are second to none, as a number
8of its varsity sports teams have won national championships;
9its other extracurricular activities provide students with
10opportunities to pursue their passions and learn life and
11leadership skills outside the classroom; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
13NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
14recognize and congratulate the students, administration, and
15faculty of Lincoln College in commemoration of its
16sesquicentennial celebration; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the leadership at Lincoln College as an expression
19of our esteem and respect.
